Fábio Schaberle é licenciado em Física pela Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC), em Florianópolis, Brasil, concluiu o Mestrado em Física Aplicada à Medicina e Biologia na Universidade de São Paulo (USP), Brasil, instituição onde também concluiu o seu Doutoramento na mesma área. Mais tarde, já em Portugal, fez o Pós-Doutoramento na área da Fotoquímica/Fotofísica, no Centro de Química da Universidade de Coimbra, onde é actualmente investigador.
A sua área de interesse é a investigação envolvendo todos os ramos da interação luz-matéria, incluindo aplicações nas áreas de Fotoacústica e Terapia Fotodinâmica.
As principais técnicas experimentais envolvidas no seu trabalho, são os métodos espectroscópicos UV-Vis-NIR de estado estacionário e resolvido no tempo aplicados para caracterização fotofísica e fotoquímica, incluindo calorimetria fotoacústica resolvida no tempo.
Em termos de investigação aplicada, tem experiência no desenvolvimento de fontes de luz como dispositivo médico e colaboração no planeamento de ensaios clínicos, resultante de uma patente do primeiro medicamento oncológico português.
